Road vs MTB cassettes

Hi there,
I wonder if you can have road sprockets and rear deraileur on a MTB 135mm hub with disk. After reading Sheldon I think it's OK, possibly apart from Dura Ace.
My specific configuration I'm thinking of is Bontrager Select road disk wheelset which can come either with 130mm or 135mm hub spacing (both would be accepted by my frame - steel 132.5mm) and Sram Rival 10-speed drivetrain. Now do I really need the 130mm wheel for that? Then I would be stuck with the wheels, since after my research on the Internet, there aren't any othe 130mm disk rear hubs. Or, if I get the 135mm wheel (easily replaceable in the future), will I be able to use the road sprockets and deraileur (actually, the whole Rival drivetrain including the new double tap shifters for flat bars)?
Cheers

  • That's funny. I posted the same question on the MTB forum and there was quite an interesting discussion.

Here nobody replied, and I originally thought the subject would fit in here more.

    hub width is irrelevant

as long as the cassette fits the freehub, then you're laughing

Plenty mtbers run road cassettes (9spd though)
