Weird Shifter

I was just riding my bike after doing a small bit of dirt jumping, and my rear shifter wouldn't go up a gear. I didn't really fix it, just the chain came off and then when I put it back on the shifter shifted up. If it happens again how do I fix it and why did it not shift up?

Front or rear? When you say shift up, do you mean to a harder gear?0

Could be that the cable was a bit clogged. cant hurt to keep 'em nuce and lubed.0

Yeah I might have thought that, the dirts probably from riding in the dirt0

Hard to say without me looking at it. Cable can get jammed in the shifter housing sometimes. I'd take all the cable off, clean, lube,and put back on.0
