It was very funny this morning watching all the newbie commuters wobbling their way in to work. They all looked very scared. Saw a few little srapes and dings, but not too bad overall. They'll get the hang of it soon.

  • Yep the newbs were out in force, Archway Road was a sea of brand new dayglo tabards, shiny plastic hats and £99 mountain bikes.

I was overtaking a car on the right and the driver kindly pulled slightly left for me. Only to find that a noob plonka was 'tinging' him and trying to undertake him on the left...

I'd love to see lots of these newcomers stick to riding, so let's hope at least a few enjoy it as much as we do! They can only get better, and they're adding to our safety out there.

I'm sure they would welcome plenty of tolerance and space!
  • I dont.Let the bomb dodgers stick to the tube.

We don't need more moron cyclists on the road as there are enough.

I saw my first Condor Carbon frame this morning... ohhh it looked tasty.

slightly older guy, clear had some cash but he went the girly commuter way through the isle of dogs rather than along the fast main road bit... I wanted to see if he'd give me a race of sorts

Cars and cyclists were heavy going but alright this morning. I was however nearly taken out several times by lemming pedestrians who were out in force around liverpool street, and obviously not used to having to be alert enough to cross roads at 7am!

Not all were so lucky, as I joined the veritable stream of cyclists up the kings road one cycling was sat on the pavement getting medical treatment surrounded by blue lights and a parked up BT van. Not sure what happened but hope he's ok.

Seemed to be little complaint from tube catching colleagues, I think everyone is resigned to the fact of what a pathetic little oik Bob Crow is.

Looking forward to warm sunshine and transport chaos on the way home.

I was very impressed with the standard of cycling being demonstrated by most of the cyclists I saw this morning. Hardly any RLJing at all.
I saw one accident victim in Camden being treated in the road; didn't see a bike so perhaps an unlucky ped.

And hardly anyone at work today.

  • I was quite looking forward to seeing all the extra cyclists on my way in today - but in the end I had to stay at home and look after my little boy who was ill with a temperature (over 40°C last night  ) Tomorrow Mrs PBT will be at home with him, so I'll get to see it all first hand on my way in ;-)
  • Definitely more bikes. Pulling away from some traffic lights in central London felt like some bike event rather than the old commute to work. More cyclists acknowledging each other too. Saw a nice scene yesterday - a lycra clad cyclist fixing a city gent's pun*tur* on the pavement New Cavendish St
    Take care all
    cheers

  • I'm all for more cyclists, the more the better and sometimes its quite nice riding along in a crowd of cyclists. And people whinging on cycling plus about all the 'rubbish newbies' getting in their way contributed to me giving it up the first time, I couldn't take feeling hated by my fellow cyclists as well as the rest of the road users!

I still didn't feel very kindly to the cyclist who made me emergency stop while crossing Oxford st because he'd jumped the red light - I rang my bell, he saw me coming, and yet still carried on teetering along like it was his right of way forcing me to brake in the middle of a junction with a taxi up my jacksy! There's no excuse for that even if you are new IMO.

Spot on. If it makes you feel better, I saw a courier type jump the red lights by Moorgate on Friday. He then rode along the pavement scattering peds, to get past the queue of traffic, right up to the policeman who stopped him and started giving him a right bollocking. Hopefully he got a ticket too.
