If you do a search on the forum there have been a couple of fairly involved threads about clipless pedals - I'm sure there's loads of good information on them.
Personally I use Quattros, but I went through several other options before I got there.0 -

Nicked from another site:
Float is the amount of movement your foot can make within the pedal when clipped in, some riders prefer a fixed position with no movement where as others like a large degree of float. Most pedals have adjustable float or different cleats to adapt pedals to fixed or floating.0 -
Thanks Mog. I've only had a pair of Look pedals and don't like the amount of left and right movement of the shoe while clipped in, more so on the right foot then the left. I must have a closer inspection of the pedal to see if it can be adjusted. I know there's tension adjustment but I thought that was to do with the the amount of effort it takes to unclip.Every winner has scars.0

What colour cleats are using with your Look pedal ?
Red cleats have float, the Black cleats are fixed....0 -
redddraggon wrote:I use SPD-SL 105 pedals, with nike shoes. Cost me £80 for both. I've only got limited experience with clipless so can't comment on the other types, but the SPD-SLs do the job for me.
I've got those pedals with Shimano shoes on my Allez Sport
There is float there, float is the amount of movement you get when you are clipped in.
They're nice pedals, I'm really happy with them, first clipless I've had.
Start with them fully loose and when you get used to them tighten them a couple of clicksRichard

I have had SPD-SL pedals with Shimano shoes a week now and have had no problem clipping in and out. (except for senior memory moment).
The yellow cleats have the most float,Its how far !!0 -
I've had Shimano SPD-SLs for a week now too after riding SPDs on mountain bikes for a long time and on my road bike for a couple of months now. I found the SLs fine for time trial training over fairly flat routes but an absolute nightmare when climbing and stood up.
If felt like my foot was sliding around on a slab of ice. I have the yellow cleats and will be looking at getting the other ,float free ,cleats asap.0 -
one of my time rxe pedals decided to snap on me 45 miles into a 100 miler at the weekend, won't be buying those again!0

I am surpised at that wors. I have used Time pedals for years and had no problems. I do know that there was a product recall with some Time pedals:

Might be worth checking yous to see if it was one of the faulty ones.
I did try Look pedals one season and found they messed up my knee. One of my mates can only ride Shimano pedals, so it is probably down to personal choice and your own body mechanics.0 -
campagsarge, i was surprised too, i have the scars on my knee where i ended up on the road!0

Using the red cleats, but will look out for black ones. Thanks for the tip.
However, it's horses for courses I guess...0 -
Nuggs, have you looked at free floating cleats such as speedplays?0
