Lobbying the council

I've had a search for a similar thread, but can't find one.

Basically, I commute in to Leeds on the A65 (busy road with both 40 and 30 mph zones). There is one roundabout in particular which is very dangerous to cross (in a car, never mind a bike!), even if I get off my bike, walk down the road a bit and try to cross that way.
Traffic backs up on it every rush-hour, morning and night so you have to weave through traffic, and also watch out for traffic flying up from the left (a 60mph zone I think).

Temporary traffic lights would be the obvious sensible answer (I know these work on Teeside effectively.

Does anyone have experience lobbying the council for such things, or know who to contact to find out the situation with particular backspots?

I'd be surprised if the traffic light question hadn't been looked into before by the council.

Sorry for the long post!

Have you got a local cycling group / campaign? The one we have here is in constant diologue with the council / councillors and has input on comittees. Could be a way to get support.

Ah - see this list - there is a Leeds Cycling Group
  • Cheers.
Looking at their list of proposed projects, there's one called Yeadon-Guiseley which would be useful, but no mention of blackspot roundabout.
    I'll get myself involved.

  • get in touch with your local councillor - they have drop in sessions or you can just phone him. It's his job to represent you, after all.
