LX front mech compatible with 8 speed?

We need to replace the front mech on my girlfriends old MTB. I've ordered the LX topswing one from Wiggle as it was cheaper than the Acer and Alivio versions but just wanted to check - will this fit with an 8 speed chain? The website simply says "multifit".

It will work - though not as well as an 8spd one. They are a little narrower are 9spd.0
