I've gotabout 12 months use out of a pair of conti 28mm ultra gators at about 50-60 miles per week average - say 2600 miles. Just got a fast p*ncture (glass cut with a little embedded glass). In specting the tyre showed quite a few small cuts but a good amount of rubber. I decided to change the tyre to be safe.

How often do you change tyres? How many/what size cuts make them a gonner for you?

I just changed mine after 12 weeks, I don't think they were great quality though - they seemed to wear quickly, got some conti's on now.

I'd say change them when the time feels right - you can normally tell by looking at them I guess.

  • I think when you start getting punctures it's time to change them, ore when their down to the carcass

My summer tyres don't last too long, usully around 3000 miles but like cupofteacp I will change them earlier if punctures become too frequent.Use marathon plus tyres in the winter, got 6000miles from them so far and they still look good. You pay around £22 -£24 for them but they last well and only 1 puncture so far.Does anyone else swap tyres front to rear to get better wear from the pair or do you just replace the 1 tyre when worn out?
