Ghost shifting

I've noticed that my 3 week old Fuel EX 9 suffers from ghost shifting on the rear mech under slow but heavy pedalling (when say, riding across grass)

Can anyone advise what might cause this so I can get it sorted?

Many thanks.

  • Is the cable to the rear mech still tight when in the smallest gear? They normally stretch when they are new.
  • Thanks guys. I'll have a look at the weekend as not sure about tight a tight cable but it certainly isn't dirty. The bike's hardly even got any dust on it; I've used it so little since I've had it...!

    Cheers

ok so it is an unused 3 week old bike. (well 4 weeks now)?

take it back and get them to sort it. will be friction in the cables some where or an outer that is too short.

  • Think I might have it sorted now. Went out for bit Sunday and just turned the shifter adjuster back one notch and it seems to be better. Turned it the other way at first and it was awful then realised I'd turned it the wrong way! Certainly must have been tight cable.

Bought the bike mail order from Paul's in Norfolk so it's about a 2 hour drive to get there so I'd probably use my nearest decent bike shop for anything I can't do myself.

    Thanks again.
