So im a little less unfit and wanting to checkout some places that arent realistic to cycle to so im looking for some form of roof rack to transport my bike. I drive a lil corsa (bike wont fit inside!) that already has roof bars and I was thinking of getting http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/p ... 360647.htm to add onto them, anyone got this product and think it does the job? (does it fit 2.5 tires?) or any other roof based suggestions. Im not keen on the rear mounted things as I dont have a towbar and the others look dodgy to me.

Thanks in advance,

Nick

  • Hey Nick,

I'm in exactly the same position. I also drive a Corsa! Are your roof bars universal or tailored to the Corsa? I need to get some but the car is old so don't want to spend loads on a car I might not have for much longer.

I've currently got real mounted job at the moment. Admitedly its a cheapy but its really not very stable and I don't feel very comfortable using it.

    Cheers

  • Most roof carriers are quite adjustable for the roof bars having a sliding clamp type mechanism - the main thing to watch is whether they fit the bike! What's the diameter of your down tube? I think with Argos you have a 7 or 14 day "take it back no questions asked" return period so you can always get one and try it out. £20 is very cheap though! Thule carriers tend to be more like £50+.

But Thule are well worth the £60 you pay per carrier, I have used £30 carriers (Halfords) and they were nowhere near as secure or as easy to operate as Thule 591 Proride carriers.

My train of though was 'Would I trust a £2500 bike to a £30 carrier', 'No' was my answer.

Thule 591 Proride carriers are expensive, but you do get what you pay for!

Mines '03 I think one of the first of the old new shape (lights right up the back), the roof has some lil plastic panels that come off revealing a generic metal 'lip' like andy describes, the roofbars my dad got off a mate, not made specificallly for corsas afaik!

Think im going to invest in something sturdy as someone put 2k +60 is less than 2kx2 :p
