Manc 100 ... how was it for you?

Just returned home from my first 100 mile ride, absolutely buggered following an eventful ride! I've been riding for about 6 weeks and my longest ride before today was 70 miles so I was slightly apprehensive of how it would go... and my apprehension was justified:

With just 10 miles gone I took a corner, in the wet, a bit too quick and clipped the white line and prompty hit the deck! Fell pretty hard injuring my ankle, knee, hip, elbow and wrist, but thankfully my trusty focus had only cosmetic damage! Only 20 miles later 2 more of my group hit the deck via a load of cow sh*t on the road!

Found myself alone with about 35 miles to go, which was LONELY! Standard pains in my back to deal with along with the above injuries. Pretty sure I didn't eat enough nor drink enough either!

Finished in 5hr06mins which I was pleased with considering my limited experience.

Overall it was a very well run event, rain was a nuisance but everyone kept up good spirits.. Off to nurse my injuries now!

Incidently, did anyone else notice the obscene amount of roadkill on the roads, notably a massive badger! Just one thing to divert my attention from the pain!

  • Well done "NovicePedals" In inverted commas cos that an awesome time after 6 weeks training and your mishaps... I thought 5:19 was good. It started drizzling just after I finished. The numbers seemed to be down a lot this year. I live on the route and there were still plenty of riders out at 5.00 pm

I did see an accident in Wilmslow at 12:50 pm...I wonder if anyone has any news about this

  • Oh, sorry to hear that. Hope all are ok!
  • Yeah I saw that accident. Didn't see exactly what hapened but the woman in the mini(?) pulled out onto the roundabout in front of the cyclist who went under the car got dragged along the road for a bit. Not nice to see :( I don't think the driver even noticed he was there till she heard people shouting.

I hope the guy involved makes a speedy recovery.
  • Didn't see the accident. Hope the rider is OK.

I did see all the roadkill though, that badger was huge, thought it was a hog at first!

I also had a little moment. At 101 miles just at the junction before the park entrance I was coming up to the lights and got squeezed by a car taking "the racing line"! Anyway I was just too tired to unclip as I braked and fell off. Trying, successfully, to not damage my pride and joy I cut my knee open and it's still stinging now and bleeding now!

Did it in a time of 5.45 which I'm pleased with. Well impressed with your time Novicepedals, well done. The last twenty miles were awful, pouring down with fine drizzle but nice and flat apart from the one in Wilmslow right at the end!

yeah it was a good event, njoyed it until one of my pedals decided to snap at 43 miles! cycled onto the pitstop at 56miles to get a new pedal off the mechanic nowhere to be seen!! cycled on for 30 miles with one pedal and an axle! I saw the guy who had the accident, he was sitting up when i went passed so hopefully not too serious. 5hrs 34 mins for me not too bad considering one pedal.

    well done everyone
  • Wet, but loads of fun.
  • I done it in 5 hours 36 minutes, the last 20 miles was sheer agony.

First time in three years doing this as it clashed with the Spud Riley the past few years. Managed to do it in 5.35 which was almost an hour and a half faster than 2004. Thanks to all those who dragged me along throughout the day. It was a well signed and marshalled route as ever.

I enjoyed the the ride except for the last few miles when it started
raining and some rider (wearing a blue top) sat on my back wheel.

He didn't even say a thank you for the tow he took advantage of.

    maander.
