mudguards, racer frame

The frame on my bike is based on racing, not touring/commuting. Therefore it doesn't have the necessary fitting points for standard mudguards.
the brakes/wheels are:
Double pivot brakes and 700 x 23C
It does have a threaded hole either side above the rear axle (only), approx 30mm centre to centre. I figure these are possibly for panniers as opposed to guards?
So, anyone else had this situation or got any advice ?

You can use p-clips
And I think SKS Race blades 'clip' on to your forks/ seat stays for road bikes.
Don't see why you can use the axle-holes you mention to fit the guards. I do.

Race blades will do the job just fine I should think.0

I have SKS Race blades, they work fine but when you first try them on the bike you may think "These'll never fit" but they do, just fiddly bending arms to suit. Also make sure you fit the rubber bands as tight as possible. I cut off the excess but may live to regret this!
I have 28c tyres on btw.
I have found though that over rougher roads/potholes etc that the rear guard moves through the plastic mount and eventually rubs on the wheel. Ok when going fowards but it locks the wheel up if rolled backwards!
Solution I will action this weekend (when I unclip them for a long ride) will be to pop a stainless screw in from underneath to stop the slippage.
Barter with your LBS as they should be able to match web prices.0 -
Went to Decathlon (sheffield) yesterday. They'd just received delivery of the Zefal version of the race blades (Protektor?)
£16.95 the pair.
I'll wait till worse weather to fit them tho'0
