I used to be really in-the-know about bicycles when I worked in a bike shop 10 years ago, now im 28 and I want to get back into biking. Im thinking of buying a Specialized Rockhopper, reduced from £550 to £450. The spec lookks quite good. The frame is an M4 Alloy, is this good?

Also, what do people think of the spec? http://www.specialized.com/bc/SBCBkModel.jsp?spid=22184 Bear in mind that this is my first bike in 10 years.

Its good value. You need to test it.
  • i have one. very pleased with it. It is my first bike for about ten years too.

dalescycles where advertising them for £399 by the way.
  • I've had a rockhopper disc for 4 months now - go the hydraulic discs, shes a fast bike.
  • I got the Rockhopper Disc a couple of weeks ago as my first MTB. Seems like a great bike (I love it). Read a thread on a forum somewhere where most people were saying that it seems to have a very good spec for the price.

I have an '07 rockhopper disc. First 'proper' mountain bike and I love it. Taken it to Scotland (7stanes) and Wales (afan) and its coped brilliantly.

    I highly recommend it!

    Just to add my praises.

I've also have an '07 RHopper Disc, used daily with slicks for my commute, 2000 road miles and around 200 off road and it's still running like new...

    Great solid bikes......
  • I've got a '07 Rockhopper Pro Disc. Awesome frame and incredibly light! I'm a happy man! :)
  • I have an '05 R'Hopper PRO and it's been and still is a good bike although the Manitou Blacks are a bit sketchy on more testing trails.... I've not looked to see the fork spec on later models but I guess they're improved over mine!
  • My first proper MTB was a Rockhopper.Always a good safe bet for anyone, new to mtb'ing but also good enough to upgrade,in the longer term.

I ended up buying the £449 rockhopper from www.edinburghbicycle.com. out of curiosity, whats the difference between this and the version you bought? all i know is the brakes are disc brakes but the frame and forks are the same, what about the rest?
  • Just higher specification really.

    Check specialized.com to compare.
  • Can't fault the Rockhopper, I have an '06 with disc brakes, great daily commuting bike and at weekends is a fantastic bike for off road.
