How you doing? I'm new to this forum but have been reading a few opinions over the last few days. Looking to buy a new bike around the £500 mark. Theres a lot out there and I dont really know what I'm looking for.
Gonna be using it for general xc riding, live in a hilly area so gonna need it for some steep climbs and decent downhill runs. I'm getting back into it after a few years so need some objective advice on an entry level high quality bike,
Done some basic research, not a great deal but from what I've read the Carrera Fury sounds good value for the spec (plus a Halford's voucher even better) and been looking at the Boardman Comp, as well as a couple of Specialized (Rockhopper+Hard Rock).
If anyone has any useful pointers they would be much appreciated.
Cheers

Will give you a good starting point, then go out and test ride some bikes if possible.___________________________________________________________

Went down to my local halfords just to see what they had, thats the only local bike shop around and the opportunities for test riding, as well as the stock, are fairly limited. The guy in there was saying for the money the fury is the best specced bike around, but of course hes gonna push that bike. He also said that if I could afford the boardman comp to basically go for that. Seemed an alright bloke who sounded like he new his stuff but again hes gonna try and big up the bikes halford supplies, despite the comp not being available in that store.
Saying that, looking over the net and comparing the two spec wise and by others opinions the majority seem to think they stand out component wise and for value. I may be being a bit shut eyed to other models but like I said I'm a novice when it comes to makes+parts.0 -
Its is good value. But doesnt mean anything if you dont like the fit or feel - at least have a sit on it and ride round the shop car park.0
