Sorry this is very off topic but there seem to be a few tehnical experts on here that may be able to answer.

I have a fairly standard HP laptop with a VGA output and have connect this with a VGA cable to the pc input on my 42" plasma screen.Tthe manual says that i simply select 'RGB' input from the menu but the plasma screen seems to detect no signal.. the plasma is brand new and unlikely to be the problem.

i have tried this with two laptops with the same result, and both laptops are fully working

Is there something on the laptop that i need to configure so that it outputs via the VGA port ?

Any ideas guys ?

Daniel

You have to enable the laptop to send the signal out. Normally pressing "Fn" + one of the function keys does it.

  • Normally with laptops there's a function key combination (Ctrl + F5, for example) that cycles between laptop screen -> external screen -> both ... or something similar.

It should say what combination you need to use in the manual for the laptop. If you don't have a manual, look at HPs support web site for a copy.

If its an HP laptop it's Fn+F4 - connect the cable to the screen first before powering-up the laptop too.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
  • Thanks guys all your advice was spot on.It's working now. i thought it was something simple like that and i can now surf the web on a 42" sreen which is quite indulgent lol
