In praise of the Cube Acid hardtail

Hi everyone.I have been looking around for a new bike around £600 for a while as my 2000 marin hawk hill needed some mony spending on it.Liked the new hawk hill an looked at all the usual suspects. My local shop, Velocity cycles in Huddersfield had the Cube range of bikes-no I hadn't heard of them either. (they are hand made German bikes, very big in Europe having their first year in England). The Cube Acid was the right price £590 and the spec was way above the Marin and others.XT rear, LX front.Dart3 fork with poploc (locks fork out via cable from handlebars) Hayes 9 discs etc.Full spec here at www.cube-bikes.co.uk.Looks like the 2008 spec has shimano discs though.
The main thing was bike felt right as soon as I got on it.It has a very positive pedal action. This may be down to the rear crank arm being 5cm shorter than the Marin and many other bikes. And from what I understand a shorter arm does give rise to a more positive drive but it's still down to the rider and his (in my case 53 year old) knees in the end! The only things I have changed is the head set and the saddle as I like my handlebars further up and back towards me (must be my yorkshire arms, you know short arms long pockets!) but they fitted an adjustable one for me in exchange for the standard one My saddle I have kept my Selle gel one that I already used and has not given me numb bum in 7 years. The change from V's to discs is taking some getting used to even now.The Smart Sam tyres are big and fat but they are designed with the centre nobbles flat and treaded and so offer low rolling resistance and I would recommend them to anyone as an all round tyre..I don't think I've been out so much on a bike in one month and enjoyed it so much, roads XC and tracks.
So anyone looking in a similar price bracket give them a look I certainy have not been disappointed so far.In fact I understand all this years stock has been sold so I musn't be the only one to be impressed.
