Hello, the new boy here.

I am using a load of left over bits and bobs to restore a ladies MTB/Hybrid thing.

It's now got Altus rapidfire shifters, Acera (I think) derailleurs and I've just put a Megarange rear cassette on it, so it's all Shimano. However, I can't get the rear changer to index properly. It only finds six cogs throughout the seven positions, and it seems to be different cogs each time.

I've mucked around with the H & L adjusters, and the cable and cable tensioner and nothing seems to work. Is there anything else I can do, or am I wasting my time?

This bike is not going to be used for anything much, so I'm not bothered about the cheapo components..

TIA

PJ

so how many positions does the shifter have? and the chain is compatable.

have a read of parktools and start again.

  • The shifters are 7-speed (rear), and so's the cassette.

That Parktool website looks really cool; I'll check it out. Thanks
