Alternatives to Spacers for getting the bars right

Does anyone know if an increased stem angle is a substitute for spacers for getting the bars the correct height?

What about headset spacers, like the ones advertised on the Chris King website, are these just normal spacers but just made by Chris King or are they added into the configuration in a diferent manner.

I do not like the look of loads of spacers, and was thinking that there might be another more aesthetically pleasing way of getting round a head tube that is a tad too short.

How about a stem that has a "deep" clamp, anyone know if there are any of these, it seems hard to find dimensions for the clamp depths on stems.

Cheers in advance.

Indeed it is - the only important thing being putting the bars in the right place. You should be able to simply flip a road stem to give you rise - though fashion seems to dictate a flat stem on a road bike (personally I think it just looks stupid having a flat stem with a load of spacers underneath!)
  • I agree aracer totally, cheers for the info, I have an uncut steerer on a new bike, and I want the bars a little higher, as this one is not for out n out racing...I really dont like loads of spacers...

Cheers...and sorry everyone about posting this topic twice, I am not sure what happened...
  • Bring back the good old quill stem I say... :D

But you can't flip a quill stem to give you more rise
  • Nope - you just raise it to the height you want!!!!!

Then swear at it a lot when it locks up solid when you do want to change it
Has the head wind picked up or the tail wind dropped off???
