Handlebars are too wide.

Hi everyone,

I've recently got a Mongoose Tyax Elite as a replacement for a stolen bike. It's great except that the handlebars are really too wide for my liking. If I come to a sharp corner it all goes a little bit Harley Davidson.

I'm not sure if this is a stupid question, but is it OK to simply cut a small amount off both ends? Or will I have to fork out for a new set of bars?

Cheers,

Guy

  • Yep, most bars come with markings to cut them to your liking - I personnally prefer a wide riser - just measure correctly each side - mark your line (I use masking tape) and use a sharp hacksaw - just make sure you have enough room for grips/shifters/brakes before the bar 'flares out'

You might get a better cut (parallel and no rough edges) using a pipe cutter (one on ebay going cheap)

Thanks for the tip. I'm sure there's one kicking around in the shed somewhere.
  • All went well. Bars are a much better width now.

Thanks again for the help. :)
