Not quite the perfect format for a new tv quiz show, but I do need help :!:

being a tad on the shorter side, I find a lot of frames have steep seat tube angles. I want my Brooks, but those steep angles dont help me with layback, but I found THIS on FGG.

I did email the chap but with no reply, so could anyone id this please? Pluses would be to know whether its a current model and if available in 27.2, but I can google that lot anyway if I need to.

layback, single bolt, looks very like an ancient X-Lite MTB post I used to used to have, must of gone out of production years ago though so no help. A quick look shows http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... odelID=723 is the current sort of x-lite post, nothing like the old one although it does have a good amount of layback.

Some Easton posts eg http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=11603 have a lot of layback.

i have a proper thompson lay back seat post if you are interested. It has a 10 degree mit shaft angle in it (if that make sense)
  • I got a reply this morning. Apparantly its an old Specialized (and has an inbuilt gizmo for attaching seatbags!) but the chap has no idea what model.

the Xlite looks interesting, though hard to tell the layback because of the angle. I sit back anyway, but Brooks were apparantly designed for traditional slack angled bikes, so even though I do have more layback than many posts, the Brooks still sits forward compared to most saddles. I'll google that for more angle pics!

I already have a Kalloy but their setback is modest, and again with a Brooks, is hardly noticeable.

I have a similar FSA post to the Easton, on my Giant OCR, but dont fancy that at all on my trad (but getting less so) style singlespeed, seems like a good post though.

I think I know what you mean about the shaft angle; the post itself is bent back, as on some bmx types? But with my horizontal top-tube there probably wouldnt be enough exposed post. Interesting idea though!

Thanks for the answers, was hoping rather than expecting an answer for a question like this!

  • Well, after more internet trawling I found a seatpost :) at SJS (should have looked there first, knowing the oddnsods they have!) I was going to post a link but its disappeared, so that was probably the last one. No id on it but pics found seem to suggest its an old Post Moderne. Pretty basic post, noticeably stiffer than my carbon one, even just riding round my yard, but once the Brooks is broken in, it should feel better.

  • If it has an inbuilt gizmo for a bag, then it's probably a Trek post - I have one that looks exactly like that. Of some taiwanese maker sold the same posts and bag mount to both Trek and Specialized, which is highly likely.

Anyway, Look does a seatpost, the Ergopost 4, with three mount points for the saddle cradle, which gives you stupendous amounts of setback.

Staggeringly tedious Flash-driven website that prevents useful direct link:

  • I think Craig is a good name for a seat post.
Has the head wind picked up or the tail wind dropped off???
  • If it has an inbuilt gizmo for a bag

Thats the original post I saw. The one I eventually bought was a different one.

I'll check the look post out of interest, but will be trying to get along with what I've just bought first. off-bike at the moment though with a wrist strain.
