Carbon seatpost

Courtesy of Scott I know have a carbon seatpost to replace my broken alu one. I know it mustn't be greased with normal grease but I am vaguely aware that you can use carbon grease for a seatpost? Is this essential? I assume I need to clean the old grease out thoroughly regardless....
