Shimano road STI's and mtb front mech. Will this work?
I'm building up an old hybrid frame to use as a winter bike and it uses a top pull front mech rather than a bottom pull.I'll be using a road chainset(52,39) and sti's but will need to use an mtb mech (an old LX one from when mtb's used 28,38,48 chainsets) as road ones aren't available in top pull.I know i could use a DMR mech verter but it looks a bit ugly! Would the 4 tooth difference in the chain ring sizes cause a problem too?
Any advice on the subject?
Cheers.

I'm about 99% certain it will run fine. The cable pull is different on road and mtb front mechs, but it only seems to cause a problem on triples.
Try it and see, but as I say, I'm sure it will be fine.0 -
The key thing is the amount of 'drop' the mech needs to go from 52 down to 39. It can manage 48 down to 28 - so should be fine.
As long as you have a road chainset and road shifter at the front then indexing will be spot on as welll.
Go for it!
