Mid Range Hardtail - £500?

Hi,
Looking to replace my 'entry level' Specialized Hardrock and wanted to know the best one at the £500 range. I'm planning to ride from Angelsey to Cardiff soon so will need something light, durable and fun to ride. Really like Specialized and thinking about a Rockhopper.
Would be interested to know recommendations based on your knowledge/experience.
