P-Nuckle Tension Screw

I read that if you tighten the P Tension screw then it stops the chain bouncing around but adds more friction to the chain.

Can anyone tell me if it's worth the risk and if it's a real benifit to do this.

you mean the B screw? on a shimano mech. just set it correctly to give the required clearance to the cassette.

different spring for the chain tension.

No, its on the P-Nuckle, it's a 2mm hex key screw.

    just getting there.

well if you think about it putting more tension in there will require more tension in the B screw as well. or there chain will be too close.

Ok bach to the original Q. what is it going to do put more force through the whole shifting system as well as the chain. but if you have the alternative position available and chain tension is an issue i cant see it reducing chain life that much.

but the B spring will also need to be considered as that allows the whole mech to move.

Are you having gear issues on the Orange?

No, no gear issues at all, it's just a bit noisey. It said in Zinn and TAOMBM that if you put more tensoin on this screw then it reduces the amount the chain rattles around when going over the rough stuff.

That's quite interesting. Trust me to be the annoying one. I'll go mess with it and get back to you about what happens.

tbh i dont think it will do anything on the orange as there is no chainstay for the chain to rattle on. yes it might help control the upper length of chain abit and reduce some contact with the swing arm but the top run of chain does not move much unlike the bottom length.

It was just the way you both supported your 'argument' with pictures, I was just curious about what the hell the 'p' screw thing was. Cheers for a chuckle though, I'm still bowing down to superior knowledge
