Do you know of anywhere I can buy a "long" headset bolt?

If memory serves, it's a very, very standard fastener: metric 6mm thread, 5mm Allen head.
Try a hardware store that has a wide range of nuts and bolts or look in your local yellow pages under Engineers' Merchants & Supplies; Fixings & Fastenings

CRC do various size bolts, might be worth looking on there.

sorry why? any bolt shop eg Halfrauds or B&Q will have them. as John says it is a standard bolt.

Its just another option, he might not live near a local halfords or B&Q.
