This is not a thread asking which is best, but will 700x23 tyres fit on my "el cheapo" halfords wheels that currently have 700x25 living on them?

I'm thinking they will, but has anyone experience changing from 25 to 23?

  • I should think you'll be fine... if you look at your 25 tyres, they're probably significantly wider than your rim, which means narrowing down a couple of mm won't cause any problems. As for the difference in performance i cannot say... i'm thinking of shifting the other way, from 25s to 28s for our LEJoG trip, primarily to deal with any inclement weather... has anyone tried this and is the change in performance significant? (sorry for hijacking your thread! :? )

I did this with no problems on my £450 Trek 1000.
