I've just built my first wheel!.....

OK, so I've got the back one yet to build which I am sure will be a little more taxing.....

Whilst I was building the front rim onto a disk hub (Deore) I figured that I needed to dish the wheel to the left slightly because of the disk mount area - this seems right and the dish gauge seemed to suggest I needed to do this but I just wanted a bit of reassurance! Anyone got any advice?!

the rim should be in the center of the axle locknuts.

  • What nicklouse said; which means that relative to the hub flanges, yes, the rim ends up closer to the left side.

Sounds like you have a dishing tool anyway. Just use it and all will be well.

Thanks Nicklouse and John, the dishing tool never lies (but it's always good to get reassurance from fellow forumers!). The wheel now sits squarely in the front forks of my surly!
