The time has come to replace the tyres on my Carrera Vulcan. It has the standard tyres on that came with the bike, they are 26 x 2.0. I use the bike to get to work and back, the shops, around town, friends house etc. So tyres suited to on the road. BUT I occasionaly go off road (not like you guys do) just on bumpy terrain.

So Im looking for tyres suited to on the road - and fast. But that are also capaple of a little off road. If anyone has any suggestions that would help alot, thanks.

Also am I right in saying thinner tyres are quicker/faster on the road?

Hi Ash, I wear Bontrager Jones ACX on my hardtail as I do a bit on all surfaces with them. Roll well, grip very well in the dry on anything, bit sketchy in loose wet mud, but they pay off. Worth a punt. Cheap on All Terrain atm I believe, as I just replaced mine.

I did listen to you, but I needed a new tyre fast so I settled for a Continental Travel Contact from halfords.

I only got the one as I dont get paid till friday, and I only "needed" one.....I want to get a few more miles out the front tyre before I replace it.
