My dads bike has a 6 speed freewheel on it but the lowest sprocket is a 14t, he was hoping to change this to a shimano mf-hg50 7 speed freewheel as the smallest sprocket is a 11t problem is im not sure if it will fit or not as theres a extra sprocket.

No, unless its a 6spd freewheel on a 7spd hub. Basically the new block will be wider, and may cover up the flats where the frame clamps if you use it or make the chain rub on the frame. You can respace the axle of course, but will have to redish the wheel. Possibly need new shifter too, and chain. There are exceptions with some stuff made in the 80s. What bike?0

Its a old Raleigh Memphis 23" frame. Just span the back wheel and it looks to have a flat spot in the rim in which case the original plan will be scrapped and a new wheel bought, proberley one that evans sell's Alivio Hub/Mavic XM317 rear wheel.0

First off check the dropout width. New wheels are 135mm - your old may be as little as 126mm. You can spread the frame (130-135 is easy): check Sheldon on how to do it.0
