Wotcha fixers!

I plan to jump on this bandwagon and treat myself to a ss/fixed for the winter. Currently considering either a Setavento or a Condor, though in truth I'm not really sure which offers the best value for money (if either of them). I'd be really pleased to hear from owners of factory-made fixies to help me decide what to go for. A bit of background on me: I'm 6'1" tall, weigh approx 13.5st. and am a have-a-go triathlete, though I find myself in an injury prone period at the moment. I'm not a great climber, though I live on the edge of the Mendips, and due to work and family commitments I struggle to ride more than once per week at the moment, though I have hopes for this coming Wednesday morning!

All opinions gratefully received.

Cheers,

deej

Blimey! Was it something I said? 28 views and no replies...am I asking a daft question? BTW, by "bandwagon" I meant that I'd like to "get the benefits of riding fixed and feeling more at one with the road" or something...

    Someone...?

    Surely... :?

All depends how much you want to spend. I could go on about my Langster, but I'd get flamed by those who don't like the colour! But there again. I can ride a 71 inch fixed gear up (and down) 1 in 7 gradient.

I'd go for the Condor, if you've narrowed it down to the two. Also think about a Pearson - if I'd had the extra £150 at the time then that's where I might have gone to. However, I'm more than happy with my rust coloured Specialized Funster. A perfect commuter bike.

Oh I don't think the colour is so bad - I ride a C40HP in the old Landbouwkrediet colours - red, white and blue, and I like my steeds colourful! The thing about the Langster which puts me off is the toe-overlap - I know I'm not good enough on a bike to handle that...

The Condor bikes are lovely, but the price of the Il Pompino is tempting, particularly as it could be turned into a crosser part-time.

Oh, and that thing about the 71" gear up and down a 1:7 - not sure I could do that. BTW, do you calculate your gear inches on actual wheel size or on conventionalised 27"?

......my legs are a blur on the way down........ Gear is calculated on a conventionalised 27" - it is probably slightly lower. Never had a problem with the overlap, but it could be an issue in town.

A chap at work has a Pomp - looks like a nice quality frame. Certainly wouldn't turn my nose up at it if offered.

rdaiesvb - I have a rust langster too!

do you think we count as a minority group? - I love mine too, but the langters in general get some abuse from people around here and cyclechat.

Ooh - I rode about 50 miles last weekend between Chew Magna (got family there) and Bristol and then around Bristol. Did it all on about 65" and wouldn't want to go any higher than that!

Only thing that puts me off with the pomp is the weight (and I also got toe overlap on it). I got an old 531 raleigh frame/forks off ebay with h/set, brakes and mudguards for £40 and the total build is just over £300 but it is more comfortable and a good couple of pounds lighter than the pompino it replaced.

i abuse wrongsters for fun. but that says more about me than it does about wangsters. interestingly, probably the first and last time that he words minority and Langster appear in the same sentence.
