Trying to look at my parts bin to make up a bike...
would a short cage shimano 105 9sp rear mech work with a 11-25 cassette and a 48-36-26 crankset???
Im thinking it could be a problem, regarding the triple chainset....would i be right?
Cheers, mike

Yes - right about the triple being a problem. Standard short arm capacity is 29 teeth - which means if you size your chain to work on big-big (highly recommended to have enough chain to allow this, as otherwise you're only an accidental shift away from breaking something) then the smallest cog which will still have tension in little ring is the 18 (48+25 - 26 - 29). Of course you don't actually have one of those, so it's the 19! May actually work with the 17 just about, given that Shimano specs tend to be a little conservative, which does give you a little overlap between middle and little ring, but personally I'd not be very keen to have gears like that.0

correct it will be a problem as it does not have the range to cover that front ring."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

umm thanks.
That may not be so bad, i currently run a similar setup on my commuter bike but with the correct Shimano LX rear mech and in the last year i cannot remember the last time i was in the little ring.
Plus even if i was in the little ring, i would never use say 26x12 or 26x15...as this this gear would be close to being in 36x23 or so.
So using the 105 rear mech i set it up to work on the the big-big side the only gears i couldent use would be 26x 17/15/14/13/12/???
Thanks for the tech advise!0
