Firstly, don't take your Dad to Holland. Unless you are writing a song.
Secondly, all Holland ferry trips these days will mean a cabin. Gone are the days of the disco and sleeping in the gangways0 -

lol. You can get the ferry from Fife to Zeebruge and they have aircraft seats if you want to go on the cheap. I take an eye mask, earplugs, sleeping bag and sleep in the bar. The cheeky barstewards keep the lights on full blast all night to stop folk sleeping there. Pitched up on the deck with my thermarest one time to get some peace. The North Sea is cold.0 -
A couchsurfer who stayed with me last month got a ferry from Harwich to the Hook of Holland £22 single but he did take the day ferry, and so did not have to have a cabin.
And...
Take your Dad and have a great time

Yes, the ferry, do take your dad
Thought I'd bump your thread up to get an answer with my weird sarcasm...0 -
............thought i was getting it but it faded something about ferry cross the mersey type theme?
anyways.....dads in his 70's so my penny pinching plan to have him sitting all night on some freezing deck might not be the best idea!!
frustrating though as it looks so close on map.
I've been over on national express years ago wonder if we can get the bikes on them somehow.
just tring to keep the price down to keep 'her who must be obeyed' happy.0 -
You can dump the car near Harwich and just take your bikes+clobber across to Hoek. It's fast and quite cheap (though I cant remember the price). You can take your bike on Dutch railways for a 6 Euro day ticket out of peak hours if you dont want to start from Hoek.0
