KSYRIUM LATERAL STIFFNESS

I've got a pair of Mavic Ksyrium Elites that I've been running for about four years. I've noticed recently that the rear one has lost lateral stiffness to the point where I can hear it flexing when I climb out of the saddle.

Any tips on how to cure it? Is this something I can do myself (I've done most jobs on a bike less wheel truing) or should I leave it to an expert?

If you're not confident enough to retension all the spokes yourself, then leave it to the experts. If you were to have a try and the wheel is running true, try giving each spoke a half-turn, half-turn again and see how it looks/feels
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Are you sure it's not just that the cones are loose. I thought my ES had turned to jelly as the break blocks started rubbing when climbing, turned out to need 1/2 a turn with the cone spanner.
  • Same thing happened to my front a while back.
Cured as per ninjaslim's advice, pretty much. Use supplied tool to tighten cones until resistance is felt then loosen until the tool has moved a distance equal to one spoke spacing.
