It's a good tent but very much of its time: 4kg, poles that need sorted and individually connected, massive pegs. As a proof of concept for getting back into bikepacking, it's done its job.

What's interesting about this thread is seeing how expensive tents were 17 years ago. The Chinese industrial revolution truly has been something to behold.

The downside is that quality and longevity have suffered massively. Sadly it's almost use it for a yr then through it away regardless of what it is. Cars excluded. The small Coleman / vango and OEX tents are the go to VFM IMHO. Currently using Coleman Phad x3 that's a few years old but will be looking for smaller bike packing tent or bivi bag.

I love my Phad X3! Bought it about 14 years ago when it was on sale in GO for about £65. Often used by my son and I for weekend camps for riding elsewhere. I'd hardly call it a bike-paking tent as even though it is small, it's not that small by modern standards. Very well made though. I see you can still buy them for around £125 from Outdoormegastore.

Haha!! My comment about being available at Outdoormegastore is probably as relevant as this post is old. Apparently they ceased trading in 2014 after going bust. Weird how their whole site is still active and shows stock levels etc.

That's why I'm looking for a smaller tent. The X3 did me and the boys when on camping / walking holidays when younger. It's now my go to tent when doing wkend events like dirty reiver etc.

Wife and I just bought a new tent for doing the Hebridean Way in May.

We only needed a two man but opted for a three man (three would be "cosy" in there and there was is a little more covered space outside of the inner tent than the two man version) as it wasn't that much heavier. It's nothing fancy (3000 h/h tent, 6000 ground sheet) but easy to put up, light(ish) at 2500g and packs down quite small. We did look at other, lighter, higher spec options but they seemed an uneccessary jump in price for what we wanted.
