Mavic versus Bontrager wheels with a max £350 budget - where would the safe money go? I want to be lighter, faster, more responsive and to stay clear of repairs.........

At that price point I'd rather look at the various deals on Eastons.

    Sorry, Easton's.

The response re: Easton wheels would have sufficed - I thought this was a bike forum?

You're not the Imperial College tutor, Dr Bernard Lamb, who publicly shamed his students for their week spelling and, poor punctuation are you?

Lol, no I am not the prof. Apostrophes in plurals drive me to a frothing frenzy. I am an otherwise reasonable person

    I'd go for Mavics

although this is only really cos my experience with Bontragers runs to the select aero's which came with my bike and were flexy-crap.

£280ish will get you a set of Ksyrium elites leaving enough for some new tyres too!

Ksyrium Elites are nothing special for the money

Neither (though Bonty are bearable). As suggested before, Easton seem good around that price point - either that or get some handbuilt ones. The only reason I can imagine why Mavic wheels are so prevalent is simply because they are so readily available and hyped (and maybe people think they look nice), since they are neither aero nor light for the amount of money they cost.

I had this decision a few months ago. And went for...

    Fulcrums
    (now just £320 at Wiggle)

    Although 2nd choice was Bontragers.

Neither. For the money you can buy a dogs gonads pair of handbuilts.
  • Old nisi, olympic, or super champions; campag low flange or shimano 600 (NOT ax*, though); wheelsmith.

Could probably get the whole build done for under 150.

*I don't know whether to call them directional flanges or just silly, but you can only build them with one lacing and rim handedness. Otherwise very nice looking and functional.

Listen to this guy "mikstar" he's one of the few people making any sense. Forget all the
manufacturer "hype" and get an excellent set of handbuilts that can actually be worked
on by a shop if required and not have to be sent halfway around the world to have a
    spoke replaced.
