I find TIME suit me best. Have had similar problems with LOOK and the shimano copies. And stay clear of those stupid speedplay things. Not because my ankles are week but because I have problems twisting my ankles. In time you will develop your own twisting style .

    Hi

You dont say what kind of clipless pedals you are using so in the absence of that ill assume its Shimano SPDs. If it is then maybe you have the pedals too tight and are having difficulty getting clipped out in time. Each pedal has an adjusting screw that can slacken it off the tension and make it much easier to get in and out of. As for recommendations i have only used Shimano SPDs and find them excellent for my purposes both touring and commuting.

I have a weak ankle, and put the other foot down because of this.

I have Shimano 105 road pedals and they were set on fully loose, I've tightened them up two clicks now and they feel great.

Maybe you neeed to make a conceous effort to only ever put one foot down?

It's easier to work with one rather than both.

Also I click out very early for junctions and stuff.

Yea i will 2nd that, i also have a weak right ankle after years of playing football and dont have any bother with wearing clipless . I also click out early with my non drive side in advance of junctions etc and then get ready to go with drive side at top of the revolution. Also it woint do you any harm lean against a wall or shed and just clip unclip one side for 5 mins the same other side till you get the feel of the pedal and the amount of twist required to free your cleat.

Just how weak are your ankles ? Do you not sprain them all the time if they arent up to pulling out of pedals ?

I think your technique must be lacking - do you panic and get it wrong ?

try slackening the tension on the pedal if they have them and practice at home hanging onto something. Swing the heel out keeping the foot level and it should release just fine.

I sprain my ankles with running accidents every so often, but never had a problem getting my feet out of the pedals.

    Good luck !
