Can't go past stephen Roche in 1987 on Alp d'Huez riding up to almost catch Delgado and probably save his tour in doing so.The excitement in Phil Liggets voice & Roche's collapse after the line adds to the occasion. Or perhaps I,m just remembering my long lost youth spent watching the tour on channel 4 :P

yeh,fair comment looks like Ullrich at his best.Told you old age had distorted my memory roche's clip finished on the climb of La Plagne, not Alpe d'Huez.Clip also on you tube, any one else got their own fave clip.0

I saw a great clip on French TV this summer: from some time in the days when everything was black and white (1950). It showed the peloton during a stage along the Mediteranean veering off the road onto the beach (St Tropez) and all of them running into the sea to cool off. Then they all got back on their bikes and rode on.
Amid all the turmoil this summer, that really cheered me up. Showed that it can (and probably should) be fun.0 -
