Hi guys (and gals) ive just bought a GF Tassajara need to cut down the height of the steerer tube. (this is because the Manitou forks steerer tube is too long and GF have put on 3 spacers before the stem is put on) Ive asked GF if this is possible, which they said it is. What i need to know is how i do it?

I thought i could angle grind the fork? but then this would remove the crown race which my stem bolt anchors to. any ideas? Can i remove this anchor once ive cut the fork?

Any help would be great

    Park Tools has the answer.
You dont need the guide to hacksaw sraight, just wrap some tape round it to give you a line to follow.
BUT, before you do anythin, its not unusual to find spacers above the stem- so why dont you just swap some around?

If you saw the steerer down, you must knock the star nut inside it further down, 1cm lower than your cut line. But as above, i wouldnt bother, spacers give you height adjustment.

First thing i would sugest is to get your terminology sorted as you are using incorrect names for parts here and this could get you into real trouble.

have a good read through parktools to get an understanding of your bikes parts.

I would love to see someone cut the fork stanchions and still have working suspension. :)
