Worst pain ever!

Today I experienced the worst pain ever. My gears have been slipping a bit for the last week but it hasn't really been a problem until now. I was on the boulder trail at Stainburn, really pushing hard up a hill when the chain slipped, my left leg shot up and I whacked my knee on my handlebars. It hurt so bad my vision went all blurry and I had to try really hard to stop myself puking! Probably the least damaging crash I've ever had but I've never felt anything like it!

So what's the most pain you've ever been in when riding?

  • Wasnt as bad as yours sounds, but i came off a drop on my local DH's, kind of nosed it and for some strange reason, stuck my foot out.

My foot then hit a tree, i guess i kicked the tree really :D

All of my toes went a nice shade of purple for a few days.

i was cyclin near stanage pole (peaks :D) in the wet and anyone who knows that area, in the descent towards Hathersage, will know how rough it is! needless to say, due to the terrain and wet conditions, and my crappy pedals and shoes, and my seat being a bit low, me feet slipped and i fell on the seat and smashed my two veg so hard...:cry::cry: X1000000000
i think i need to say no more.
  • :? got 2 slipped discs (at c1 & c2) and a fractured vertabrae (c4) proper gutted but hope to be riding again as soon as possible

coming off at the local bmx track. fracturing my elbow and damaging the "funny bone" nerve. think of it as having constant pins and needles but times it by hundreds.

i have two very hurtful experiences on a bike. first: i was riding to the spar with my friend (he was walking 'cos he was sleeping over mine) to get some munchies for the night at 8pm. when i got to the forecourt i decided to do a little show and backhop to stop, but i made a fatal mistake. when i endoed to come back for the backhop, the floor was very slippery so i put all of my weight (and the crown jewels) down onto the stem. i fell to the floor with tears in my eyes and my friend was in the middle of the forecourt (where all the cars were waiting to fill up their tanks) and all the cars started to beep at my friend to get out the way while he was also on the floor pissing himself. it all resulted in me getting 3 stitches in the nutsack, not good.
second bad experience: was in wentwood on a piece of singletrack on the way to the DH and i was trying to pump myself up along the rocky section, i pedalled more and got thrown off my bike by a particularly big piece of rock that was in my way, i fell into a slab of another piece of rock and then tried to get up. didn't work, whenever i moved my left hip i had lights dancing in front of my eyes, i figured maybe when i get up i'll be fine so i concentrate my efforts into pulling myself up off the floor, then i puked because of the pain. it was obvious i couldn't go anywhere so my friends called an ambulance, 2 hours later a heli comes to pluck my out, another 3 hours after that i find out that i ripped all the ligaments in my hip and stretched 2 in my knee, i then get put into surgery so they can bind the ligaments.

And you're still biking after that?! I'm sure a lesser man might have put the bike on ebay and taken up gardening or knitting!

The thought of three stitches down there is awful...think i'm going straight down to the local sport shop to buy a cricket box!

i recently broke my elbow, and you know, for the month i was off the bike, all i could think about was getting back on it. Does that make me weird???

I stopped to peel an orange and forgot that I had a paper cut!

My hand went pink and the pain lasted literally seconds.

The worst pain I ever felt was last weekend, when it was my round, and all the wives and girlfriends wanted cocktails. Cost me a bloody fortune.

My worst experience was a long time ago now.

A few friends and I used to do a lot of dirt jumping, and had made a few jumps coming out of a natural depression, which was great, lots of lift, minimal effort! At this time, we ere all still learning, my favourite trick at the time was a no-footer. I nkow what you;re all thinking, it was not this that was my downfall, but a simple x-up. For years, i had been donig these, eventually getting them so that I could do the full 180 with the bars. So up i went, pulled the bars round, held it for a bit for effect then whipped it back round . Into my front foot. The bars were now facing sideways, and i was heading for the ground fast. So i landed, tacoed my wheel, and came down on my chest. I've been told that my legs came so far over my head they almost kicked me in the back of the head. I lay there for a good half hour, thinking i had broken my back. turns out i hadn't, but damn was that scary! had to carry the bike home, which helped my back no end! I still get neck pain frmo that one.

    I don't do X-ups any more. lol :D
  • I was wheelying (standing up) past my mate whilst drunk when my crank snapped in half and I embedded a tooth in my hand.
That didn't hurt too much, until the bit where my mate (who was sober) levered the broken tooth out of my hand with a screwdriver. It had managed to worm it's way to the wrong side of the tendon from it's entry point.

Exploring different exits to a bombhole, I took the wrong exit and went flying into a tree, which had several inches of a nail poking out which went past my shin and took a large lump out of my calf. Again, that didn't hurt much, but I had to stop riding as we couldn't stem the flow of blood.

Worst injuries were getting knocked off my bike; bent frame, broken arm, broken leg, and a concussion that led me to get migraines for about the next ten years.
    They really hurt.
    Wheelies ARE cool.

  • Young Trailtrash has a Grifter. For the young guns amongst us this was a bike Raleigh made in the Seventies/Eighties, a stablemate of the Chopper. It looked a bit like a scramble bike but was around before BMX came out. And it weighed about one and a half imperial tonnes. Its big gimmick was a twist grip three speed gear change (whatever happened to Sturmey Archer?!)

Anyway, onto the pain, there was a big neutral between 2nd and 3rd. I'm riding home from school, stood up, pulling away from a stop when I make the mistake of changing from 2nd to 3rd. I don't reach third, hit neutral, my left leg dives to the floor, I'm not exactly sure what happened next other than there was an inconveniently placed riser in the pavement which meant I didn't stop until I went face first into a wall. Smashed teeth, other teeth through lips etc etc. You can't tell which of my front teeth is the false one . . . honest!!

I still can't change gear standing up!

  • ok then,
my worst pain was when i was 15yrs old and tried to jump of the wall outside my house and fail to realise that it was gonna be a hard landing!!! My feet sliped of the pedals and i landed on my nuts!! This wasnt to bad just the normal pain and feeling of being sick!! then about half an hour later the pain started to get worse and i started to be sick so i had a look at the damage (by the way i am shaking writing this almost 10yrs on).
My 1 nut was the size of a grapefruit  , i started being really sick. iIhad to tell my parents (that was fun!! not!!)!!! They made me sit in a bath of hot water and tried a bath of cold water but nothing changed.
I was sent to bed (with extra pillows) but i was up all night vomiting (about 30 times in total) with the pain. Went to the doctors the next morning and was sent straight to hospital to have an operation as the tubes to 1 of my nut was twisted and was cutting the blood supply and effectivly strangeling my nut!! The operation was to untwisted it but i had to have it removed as it had died from a lack of blood! i had the other stiched to my bag so that it doesnt twist in the future (it now hurts to sneeze!!!)
My nut is working fine (first child due in Jan 08 ) but can be a little painfully sometimes.

This was not easy to write so please try and limit the wee-wee taking!!

I didnt write this to beat any1 elses post, but just as a warning that if something isnt right seek medical advice. It could have been worst for me i could have got blood poisoning aswell!!
  •

Someone's gonna have to come up with something 'special' to beat Alex. My eyes watered just reading it.

  • holy crap dude!!
  • Can't say i beat a twisted nut.. but i was messin bout at our jumps, and decided to take a burn on my mates bmx. Was comin back along the line, and decided i'd pull a manual down the funbox affair we have leading into the pit.

Long story short, i forgot how far back i was on a bmx compared to my bike, and landed on my tailbone enouigh to seriously bruise it. couldn't sit flat on my arse for about 18 months without it hurting, and if i sit on it for more than a couple of hours it starts to ache even 5 years on.
  • my friend's chain snapped and it hit him in the coxixs and he broke them, he couldn't sit down for 3 weeks
