Whats the feeling on these? I used a set on my GT Chucker, now considering a set for my Sarcen Scarab

  • if your saracen can take them, and you dont mind paying a bit more, why not get some avid juicy three's?
pretty cheap, reliable, and well renowned. im no expert on hydraulic discs, but i would imagine they are better than hydraulic 'v' brakes.

As I say, I used them before on my jump bike, and they stopped as well as any disc brake I've ever used, in all conditions. The only drawback is I can't use my Mazzochi 120mm fork, as there are no rim brake mounts, so it looks like I'll re-fit my Mazzochi Bomber 100mm, but I feel 120mm travel upfront is a bit much for4x anyway.

As it is, the whole bike does feel a bit heavy. I'll swap the ex-3 rims for my Jalco DDZ as well.

Its just the brakes I'm puzzled over.
  • oh, sorry. i presumed u hadnt had disc's before. my bad

I bought some some for my rocky mountain in 1994 (pretty much before discs) and they've worked perfectly since - no maintenance, no bleeding, nothing. These are the lowest maintenance brakes ever. They are way better than V brakes but don't have the full stopping power of the better discs. They do however match some discs I have tried. I still use my Rocky Mountain - still going strong. These brakes are a very wise buy, especially if you are thinking long term. The Magura discs are a good choice too but the Rim brakes are excellent. The only drawback is that they will wear your rims over time.

get discs they are much better, mud doesnt get all clogged up and you dont reck your rim.

Magura rim brakes on ceramic are frighteningly powerful, even in the cack. One reason why trials riders use them.
