I know this is a popular computer i'm interested in one for my new bike, my only question is will the speed sensor work if it is fitted on the back wheel so i can use my trainer with it?
Many Thanks

in a word,no. The sensor won't transmit that far. The sensors for the more expensive Polars (ones with a replacable battery) can be bodged to increase range (at the cost of battery life) but these sensors won't work with the CAD.
    Sorry.

(Note to self: - I was able to split the "sealed" CAD speed sensor and replace the battery but never checked to see if there was a jumper to increase the range. Check next time!)

LD is right about the sensor range, but I use mine on the turbo. I bought an extra speed sensor kit..mount the computer on the top tube and sensor on the chain stay using the rubber bands, only takes a few seconds to pop them on/off and I can read the computer on the TT no probs.
  • thanks a lot can anyone recommend a computer that will do this with cadence and heart rate?

Aye the CS200CAD has got cadence and heart rate I have one myself, for what it costs its alright if you want to keep track of your training progress and miles by uploading to the polar website but your just looking for something to count your miles then its not really the best/cheap option.

VDO Digital wireless computers have quite a large range - I used mine on the back wheel.

I bought the CS200 but sent it back as I was so disappointed with the upload features. I think the higher priced polar kit gives a much more detailed set of graphs, information etc than the CS200. Also I like riding and able to see, current speed, elapsed time and distance covered on one screen the polar could not do this most basic of requests - sorry for all those polar lovers out there but I did not get on with this bit of kit - again the more expensive options may have satisfied me.

I use a CC-CD300DW Cateye.whcih is designed to be mounted on the rear chain stays. To my knowledge there isn’t a cat eye Heart rate AND Cadence computer (please don’t bombard me if I got this bit wrong). If you’re in the market you may want to consider ribble’s site as they are doing the wireless Heart rate version for half price £50 !
