Pal of mine has got a new set of rims - Mavic 195's and he's spotted that the rims are very narrow indeed - 20mm or so.

I've never even thought about rim width and just slap on 23mm tyres on all wheels apart from that phase i went through of using narrow tubs.

Personally speaking - I'd go with 23mm tyres for everything now as they corner better - the narrow tyres seem to be more square in profile than nicely rounded ?

What do you guys think - and can you see any probs putting 23mm tyres on these 20mm rims ?

Ta.

20mm is about normal width for a road rim (I thought they were actually about 19mm). Should have no problem at all putting 23mm tyres on those.

You'll be alright with most tyres up to 28mm and you can run 32mms on some e.g. cross typres on Open Pros. In the 80/90's there were some really skinny 18mm rims from the likes of Wolber and Assos - they look weenie in comparison to todays race rims. If you think you get better handling from a 23mm tyre, try a 25mm - so much more grip and comfort.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
