Medical/Saddle thread: undercarriage lumps.

As the title indicates I've got several lumps, about the size of mosquito bites, on the undercarriage in the saddle contact area. I ride nearly every day as a commuter but don't do much in the way of long rides. Any ideas?

A bump/lump on the 'family jewels'? Or the soft tissue of your glutes/bottom?

If its the family jewels I'd go see the Doc.

If its the glutes/bottom then google Weaver's Bottom.

Sounds similar to something I had last year, it really freaked me out and I was sh*tting myself when I went to the docs. It was nothing to worry about, he gave me some thrush cream (very amusing for Mrs EMD) and it cleared up in a few days. BUT you should go and see your doctor, just in case it's something more serious!

Could be nothing more than irritated/chapped hair follicles. You could self treat with nappy cream, clean shorts, skin freindly washing powder for washing shorts etc but family jewels are just that - a visit to a nurse/doctor is probably a good idea.

Could be anything - as above poster says, acne type spot (from sweat build up/clogged pore - in which case treat as any other spot, clean well, apply an acne cream such as Quinoderm, or antiseptic, wear clean shorts every day and give them an extra rinse cycle in the machine - to remove all traces of wash powder), ingrown hair (you'll need a sterile needle to remove this and to exfoliate area regularly to stop it recurring) or a hard growth of skin/tissue, under the top layer of skin that gradually builds up in order to protect the soft tissue underneath it against constant abrasion or pressure form a hard saddle (ie basically a callous, only the top layer isn't hard, it's under the top layer of skin). I beleive the latter is a 'true' saddle sore. These are a bugger to shift. you need a bit of time off the bike and possibly a different saddle position or a different saddle that doesn't put pressure on that exact spot - One with a hole? If you are worried it is an infection, an STI or the big C just go to your GP straight away.

It's on thighs/cheeks so nothing affecting 'the jewels'. Definitely not weaver's bottom either - other options make a lot of sense; I have to see the doctor next week anyway so I'll get him to take a look.

    Thanks for the input everyone.

:( get it checked out,,,,,many years ago i did'nt!!!!!it turned into a peri-anal absyss,,,and it came back to haunt me 5 times,,ie 5 times in hospita,5 opperations,,very painful and embarrassing,,have just started riding again after 6 years and i take extreme measures of cleanliness to prevent it recurring,,,a twice daily clean up with surgical spirit helps, and in days of yore, was said to toughen up the area!!!!
time is running out,use it wisely!
