Heavy newbie rider looking for something puncture proof...

Hello all,
This is my first post so let me introduce myself. I found the old forum via google when I was looking for something to prevent punctures and thus ended up here!
As a kid and into my early 20's I've always been big and a mountain bike rider but a few years ago for whatever reason it died off and I gained more weight.
In February I started a diet and Ive stuck to it since then. I currently weigh 22 stones after an already significant weight loss and I'm ready to get back into mountain biking.
I dusted off my bike that had barely been used and was sitting in the garage and I'm quite happy to stick with it. It's nothing fancy but I found it to be reliable before I stopped riding.
My problem is I've always hated fixing punctures. When I get one I tend to put it off and put it off until finally repairing it. I've been looking for some kind of puncture proof kit and I found this: http://hancox.co.uk/biketyres.html
Does anyone have any experience with these? I'm only really looking to replace the back tyre because that was always the thorn in my side before! Very rarely did I have a problem with the front.
I'm worried also because of my weight. I don't want to get one of these and find it squashing down under my frame!
Well I'll leave it there. Thanks for reading. I was initially worried about posting such a topic but by the looks of the old board there are quite a few larger riders around.
Thanks all!

Hi Ringside
Do have a look at this inspirational thread, I think you'll find it very useful, as many others have I'm sure:
http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4422383
Re the punctures thing, I have Panaracer Fire XC's (just the steel bead type, but not for long as they're nearly worn out) on my bike and I'm fortunate to have had very few punctures, only three in the last 3 months after several hundred miles of varied riding conditions. Not sure about Amerityre puncture proof jobbies, I haven't really heard of them before. They might be great but I think they're expensive. The 'What Tyre should I get ?' question is an evergreen on MTB forums I'm sure with as many strong recommendations as there are tyres
Don't know where you live but it might be a good idea if you pop into your good local bike shop to check out their advice in person about the type of riding you'll be doing road/trail etc and the punctures issue. I'm sure they'd be pleased to help.
Good Luck Matey and do say hello on the above thread, I'm sure you'll get a warm welcome0 -
I used to hate punctures when i started riding - well, still do - but what I found helpful was just taking some time at home to practice removing the wheel / tyre / inner tube and then replacing it all until it became second nature and very quick. Then, when out on the trail, should I puncture, putting the spare tube in was no problem at all.0

Hi there Ringside.
If u want a tire with lots of volume for shock absorbtion u should try a set of Panaracer Fire FR's, u really wont find a much bigger tire unless u go for the ridiculous DH tires.
They're not the lightest tires out there but they really do provide alot of cushion and comfort, the only downside is that alot of frames just wont fit them at the rear (they really are that big, 65mm wide if memory serves me correct).
If my current frame could fit them i would put them back on in a heartbeat.0 -
yeh punctures are very annoying and pretty much un prventable.
i had some kevlar anti puncture tyres and had 3 punctures in a month
grren slime went in my my road bike tyres as wel as the kevlar punture protection and had another punture
no I carry this stuff that will get you home with a puncture, as long as i regonise that I have one before the tyres dead flat0
