aiming to upgrade to either a Stumpy FSR or buy a frame .. either Santa Cruz Heckler or Cove Hustler or similar.

how much of my current kit could I keep from my Giant XTC and put onto the new frame ?
or is this a bad idea;

ignoring the obvious stuff like wheeels, bars, post etc.

front fork = manitou splice super
shifters, front mech, rear mech = shimano lx
crank, bottom bracket = truvativ
brake levers and calipers = Giant mph

any ideas ?

Fork will depend on steerer length which depends on new frame , headset and stem.

Front mech depends on the band size, and wheter top or bottom swing (though both may fit)

Bottom bracket depends on the shell width of the frame

Calipers depend on the mounts used - you may need adaptors

Most sites have the data for the frames so you can compare.

headsets are different? i think new fork coulde be needed due to the giant having a much lower headset stack height.

The steerer length on the old Mnaitou Splice forks,on my Giant XTC with a 19" fmedium frame was only 190mm due to the low stack height with the internal headset, which means that fitting the forks to a similar size frame could be difficult unless you lose some spacers.

Seat clamp is 34.9 and seatpost is 30.9 which is common to Specialized and I think, also Santa Cruz.

The fork max travel is 100mm,which might be a bit short for some of the frames you are looking at,especially for the Heckler and Hustler.

The kit might work as an interim measure, but you are not going to get the best out of the frame.

I have an XTC SX,with upgraded XT bits on and a Reba fork.If I go full suss, the easiest option would be to get a Giant Anthem frame, which would both suit the majority of my riding and mean the maximum use of my existing kit,as all the frame fitted part sizes will be the same and it works best with short travel 85-100mm forks, that I already have.

You might also want to consider a Trance. The Giant frames are very well constructed and well regarded, and probably as good as the others on your shortlist, but will be easier to pick up at a good price.

    Thanks for your answers.

I dont see me changing bikes too often, just wanna make sure I get it right this time round, If its the Heckler I go after then maybe I'm better off selling the giant secondhand and just biting the bullet.

You need new forks I reckon for the reasons mentioned above. Without wanting to be rude the Manitous you mention would let those frames down in terms of travel & performance. You can pick up RS PIkes relatively cheaply and they are excellent.

Most other stuff should be no problem.
