ok, got my specialized hardrock (hydraulic break version) a couple of days ago and im loving it really. only problem i do have which i could get fixed when it has its 4 weeks service is that when in gear 8, at any random time the chain will give a decent clunking sound. not sure why this occurs and if I could fix it before I take it into service. any ideas?
cheers

it's prob that the gears need a slight tune. if not you could have a bent hanger or possible a stiff link. a shop should be able to tell you and sort it for next to nothing.0

ok cheers i guess its just the gears that need a slight tune, cant be any of the others as ive only had the bike for 2 days0

Are you sure its not just the chain hitting the frame, or the mech hitting the frame?0

hi, i recently bought a giant nrs 1 05 model at a very good price i'm having the same clunking noise as fosse, the chain is running smoothly and is not jumping gears but when i'm on the large ring at the front and the 4/5 smallest gears on the back i get this clunking,at first it felt like the bottom bracket was at fault, it happens when i'm on the road or dirt i'm at a loss as to the problem it's not even when i put any great pressure on the pedals the clunking occurs any help or advice would be welcome

As above, is it the chain hitting the stays as you go over bumps?0

no, i have a lizard skin on the bike, perhaps the gearing needs a fine tune,i would like to have a go myself, any website for the info i need?0

i do believe adjusting the b tension screw stops the mech hitting the bike?? well it worked fro me..0

well it's going into the shop next week they seem to think its the bearings on the bottom bracket, will let you know the results when /if it's done, a bit shocked really as the bike has only covered about 150 miles0

Don't know why i didn't think of this before, the bike i use off road is a giant nrs 1 which i'm very happy with, to go to work and back i have a giant terrago disc, so today i decided to switch back wheels to see if its the BB or perhaps the wheel bearings and thankfully its the wheel bearings, much cheaper, The nrs rode without so much a single clunk whilst the terrago was clunking like a good un0
