The sensor part, then the screw part to my spoke, as near as possible. As far as i can see it is set up properly, really frustrating me now.

i have just bought the strada wireless and fitted it tonight and it works fine. sounds like a fault. It was dead easy and worked straight away, take it back!

did you take all the plastic covers off the batteries...try undoing them all and making sure they connect properly

I've got a Strada Wireless and it worked straight out of the box, no problems. If I were you I'd retrack my installation steps making sure I'd done everything spot on. Then, if there's no life in it I'd take it back.

BTW, you have got the spoke magnet passing about 5mm from the right part of the transmitter unit?

also make sure the sensor on your forks is mounted on the front side of the forks (ie. the side towards the direction you ride in), otherwise the signal can have trouble reaching the bars as the forks kinda block it.

Thats what happened with mine anyway.
