Recommend me a set of wheels
I have 400 pounds burning a hole in my pocket for some hoops. I was going to go for the Campagnolo Neutron ultras but everywhere is sold out till October, and I want them now!
Something along the lines of the neutrons would be ideal i.e light and stealthy looking.
Thanks for the tips.

Fulcrum Racing 3's
RRP is £400. A few online retailers do them for £360. Wiggle currently has them for £320. Absolute bargain.Rich0 -
They look alright but there a bit on the heavy side compared to the campags, not normally a weight weenie but 165g is quite a bit for wheels.Mañana0

Ha! Those Fulcrums weigh in at a hernia-inducing 1650g.
So go custom. It's like getting a Saville Row suit instead of an off the peg item from a flash fashion name. More quality and designed for you. For example:
- DT Swiss 240 hubs: ultra smooth with well sealed bearings. These are light and durable and are used inside the ultimate wheel the CarbonSports Lightweight but you can buy a set for £160.
- Mavic Open Pro rim: the sister of the Ksyrium rim but 30g lighter per rim and with the CD hard wearing braking surface, available for under £30 a rim
- Sapim CX spokes or DT revolution, 60 spokes for under £60
- a wheelbuilder will charge £50 and on rim tape and spoke nipples and the total cost will be £350.
You end up with a lighter pair of wheels (1500g) which are stiffer too and can be built (number of spokes, spoke tension etc) according to your needs. What more do you want?0 -
Forget fulcrum , rims wear . Try planet x carbons for £5000

Easton Ascent II's are the dogs kiwi's - light, strong, look good etc etc etcCrash 'n Burn, Peel 'n Chew

Are the Easton Ascent IIs bulletproof? I'm on the lookout as well, to replace my Ventos, but the roads around here are full of pot holes that are sometimes impossible to avoid. The Ventos have stood up really well, but I'd like to be sure that some new wheels do as well.0

I used a pair for 18 months straight on my commuting bike - 5 days a week, all weathers, never had a problem. However, I did take care to remove the crap from my brake blocks throughout the winter months to keep rim abuse to a minimum...Crash 'n Burn, Peel 'n Chew

"So go custom. It's like getting a Saville Row suit instead of an off the peg item from a flash fashion name."
Or:
It's like instead of buying a sports car that has been built from the ground up by a team of factory professionals, with all the parts designed around each other and complementing their strengths, you buy a family hatch and spec it with spoilers, alloys and a bigger engine.
It's custom, but is it better than the best can create with their own products?0 -
"Forget fulcrum , rims wear"
Rims always wear out! Cross teams were replacing their carbon rims after one season. $$$0
