Simano gear cable barrel adjuster

Ok. On the STI's on my bike the gear cables have barrel adjusters where the cable comes out of the shifter. I don't have them on the frame downtube. Now I need to tension up my front derailleur but no matter how much I turn the adjusters the cable doesn't shift. I've even tried tying a bit of thread onto the gear cable and measuring the distance between it and the housing braze-on before and after turns and it doesn't budge.

Anyone else experienced this? I guess its shoddy set up from the store.

There's an inner and outer part of the barrel that need to twist against each other to extend the length. If you're turning the outer and the inner is turning with it, then it won't extend.

I had this trouble and discovered that the adjuster was screewed all the way out. I have to reset the adjuster then tighten up hte cable in hte clamp, then readjust. Now it's ok. (My frame fitted adjuster are siezed up).
I have only two things to say to that; Bo***cks
