Has any got any of these or other ortlieb panniers? I looking for quick release but solidly attached panniers. (The red also matches the rest of my bike)

Can anyone recommend these?

Hi, yeh i've got a set of those panniers. Had them for about 15 months. Commuted to work last winter in all weathers, they were totally waterproof. They come with two sets off plastic clips depending on the diameter of your rack tubes. Used for off-road touring last year, they were as safe as houses. Mine are red too. Look pretty cool. Definately recommend them.

I don't have them, but they seem to be the pannier of choice here at work. I count at least 4 ppl on my floor. Those who I've asked, love them. Very easy to mount. Safe as houses and totally weatherproof.

I have the Bike Packer Plus bags.

They have a lid rather than roll top, and the Plus models (there is a Plus version of the roller too) have cordura fabric (but equally watertproof). The Plus models also have the QL2 (rather than the QL1) hook system, which allows a security cable to be fitted (good for leaving the bag on the bike when at the shops, it slides neatly away in the rail when not in use),

and a couple of other minor differences. There is also an outer mesh pocket which I find useful (keys, other small stuff I need ready access to).

I chose them over the roller or classic models because of these differences, but the rollers are very good too, and probably would be happy with them.

The Plus fabric makes for a slightly lighter bag, and it isn't shiny (though I quite like the shiny look).

    alfablue,

I've got the similar panniers to you, the smaller Sport packer plus in Black. I chose them for similar reasons as you, except I tend not to leave them on the bike; nearly 2 years of abuse they are still going strong. I also like the internal snow sack (or whatever its called) it makes them expandable when need be.

It should be noted that there are the Classic and Plus ranges.

The difference is the fitting system as illustrated in the PDFs

The differences are that the Classic has a single bar for the bottom hook (QL1)

The Plus has an oval bar which allows height adjustments as well making them more adaptable.

The clips and material are also different, but practically this is not as important as the bottom clip fitting when it comes to versatility.

Agreed, note also the QL2 system also is more adjustable at the top rail hooks (and can even be tilted for more heel clearance), and adjustment needs no tools. These differences should help with fitting to a wider range of bike and rack combo's.

  • An overlooked difference between the "Plus" and "Classic" models is that the "Plus" models do not use any Poly-Vinyl-Chloride (PVC) a very damaging material to the environment in both manufacture and disposal. This was my main reason for getting the BackRoller Plus over the Classic. The QL2 system was a bonus.
