Hello,

I am seriously condsidering a Kaffenbach as my everyday transport bike. I would need a 54cm and was wondering if the there would be any toe overlap when full guards are fitted.

Anyone have one? What is your experience of the above?

Thanks

Steven

i didnt have problems with the overlap, it was getting the mudguard on that was the problem. Its way fiddly and the clearance isnt generous. A decent LBS is helpful
  • Thanks very much, what was the problem with clearance? Was it at the chainstay bridge?

no it was under the brakes that was hard. had to drill new hole etc. this was a bout 3 yrs ago and i think planet x have altered frames since. they are helpful and would put you straight. sold the kaffenbach for pinarelo sestriere which is a lot nicer and great audax bike.
  • Crikey, don't like the sound of that. Will check that out before I purchase. Sestriere is very nice, perfect Audax and Winter bike but doesn't have big clearances as far as I remember.

    Thanks.

clearance on new Kaffenback frames is greater than on old versions - the wheelbase has been increased - so I'm sure it'll be fine. As for fitting mudguards, it's absolutely fine - just drill a small hole through the 'guard so you can screw through in to the seatstay bridge. This is not completely necessary but makes for a very secure fitting 'guard that'll never rattle. I really liked the way the guards fitted to my old Kaffenback. In fact, I really liked my old Kaffenback.

Oh, WTF did I sell it.

    :(
I'm only concerned with looking concerned

so speaks a man who is useful with his hands, unlike myself. the sestriere takes 25 easy, probably 28 if need be. chat to brant at P-X. he'll see you right

I've set mine up just as jpembrke has suggested. I used a slotted pan head screw as opposed to a more normal cap head on the seatstay fixing, just for a few mills of extra clearance. Works a treat with 700 x 28 tyres.
